Well, the first day arrived. I had been staying at the "San Diego Inn" since Saturday. The San Diego Inn is the apartment of my friend Kim. My "suite" consisted of an air mattress placed in the corner of the dining room. Very cozy, I had a window and a little lamp and her cat helped me wake up every morning
Got to my front row seat, Steve's side, not too shabby. More than worth the 8 hours and 40 minutes I spent seating at my computer trying to get through to the OC fair web site, they must have been running it with Commodore 64's (I am so showing my age here!). The opening act was a standup comic. Pretty funny and clean, but he did pretty much the same routine all three days. I had it memorized by Wednesday. Anyway, after a brief intermission Nick Yankovic came out and introduced AL. I thought that was very cool! And out came Alfie! But wait! Who is the young man standing in Steve's place? It is Miles Jay, Steve's son! I had seen/heard him play with his Dad at The Knitting factory back in December and thought he was very good. He did a wonderful job. In fact he did such a good job, I took a ton of pictures of him and he gets his own section on this page! My friend Kim and her friend Miranda were newbies at Al concerts. Boy were they in for a treat...or a lifelong trauma! I think I traummatized them for life with my screaming! The new song, Party at the Leper colony is sooo sick. I LIKE IT! I have a very sick, twisted sense of humor so the song is right up my alley.... When Melanie started, it took me a few seconds to realize what song it was (don't know why, but it happened that way), then I screamed at the top of my lungs! It happens to be my favorite psychotic love song. SG probably is still trying to recover from that experience... Dog eat Dog live is such a treat, It has become one of my favorite AL songs!
On, Tuesday, I went to the fair early, had to visit the animals, ya know! Sorry cannot help who I am. I missed my little "zoo" back home... Met up with Brenda, Cinnamon, SG and the other gals. Front row seat again! This time a bit off the center. Took lots of pictures again, I think they are better since by now I had gotten used to the zoom lens I borrowed from my friend Kim (THANK YOU, GIRL!) I just have to get one of those puppies for myself, and I just did! Flawless show once again except for the fact that Al fell off the stool when trying to seat down at the beginning of TSB. Was it intentional? Who knows, but he got up without missing a beat turned the stool upside down and sat on it like that! Odd, but very funny...
On Wednesday, I met with Alina and her husband Frank. We left the fair for a while to get something to eat. It was terribly hot and none of us like the heat (and I grew up in a tropical island, go figure!). We got back in time for the show. I had such mixed feelings about this show, since it was my last night at the fair. I never wanted the day to end.... Again it was an awesome show!!!! I shot a couple extra rolls of film that day. I was seating dead center so I had to take advantage of the location :-). But the night came to an end I said my goodbyes to all the wonderful people at the fair and had to head to San Diego. Wow, those were 3 days I will never forget as long as I live... A big THANK YOU!! to all the people I got to say hi and chat with (you know who you are!). I miss going to concerts already and it has barely been a month....
